A palpable lump on her right breast and pain when moving her hand prompted her to visit a gynecologist.

Unfortunately, the doctor, without conducting a detailed examination, recognized the lesion as an abscess and prescribed an antibiotic. Despite treatment, the pain did not subside, and the situation became increasingly worrisome.

Determined, Karolina decided to have a private ultrasound, which confirmed that the breast lesion required further privileged diagnosis. With the results of the test, she went to her family doctor, who referred her to an oncology surgery clinic. Unfortunately, there was a shortage of specialists in her hometown of Gorzow, so further testing had to be done privately.

During the diagnosis, a consultation with an oncologist was performed and a tumor specimen was taken for histopathological examination. The result confirmed the diagnosis - malignant breast cancer, triple negative. On the recommendation of a private oncologist, she was taken to a clinic in Szczecin, where detailed examinations and intensive treatment began.

Current therapy includes chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Genetic testing was also performed, which revealed a mutation in the BRCA1 gene, which predisposes to recurrence of the disease and increases the risk of ovarian cancer. The treatment plan includes continued chemotherapy, immunotherapy and radiation therapy, followed by surgery: a double mastectomy and removal of the ovaries. After the completion of chemotherapy, a medical consultation will be held to determine the details of further treatment.

The BRCA1 genetic mutation also has implications for the future of Karolina's family. Her daughters, when they grow up, will have to undergo genetic testing to see if they are also carriers of this mutation.
