Silence after diagnosis
Everything changed on February 17. The test result came - malignant gastric cancer. G3 adenocarcinoma. The clinic was quiet, too quiet. The doctor spoke, but the words became less and less intelligible. Kamil left alone, he didn't want to call his wife yet. He had to gather his thoughts before telling her that their lives were changing again.
A plan that collapsed after the third infusion
Chemotherapy was suggested - four infusions before surgery. After the third, the body rebelled. Hepatitis B was diagnosed . Instead of preparing for surgery, antiviral treatment was implemented. Not to cure, but to stop the virus. Kamil didn't ask questions. He took what was offered to him. That was as much as he could take.
Body after surgery
On May 8, doctors removed Kamil's entire stomach. Since then, he has been living differently. He eats in portions that resemble a dosage rather than a meal. He feels that his body lacks more than an organ. It lacks strength, dexterity, continuity. Sometimes he can't get out of bed. His wife helps as much as she can. But now she needs care, too.
When the caregiver himself needs care
Since the operation, Kamil has been unable to work. Sickness benefits are all he has today. Before, he carried not only groceries, but also his life - his own and that of his wife, who has been in a wheelchair since birth. Now they both depend on the help of others, on empathy, on someone's decision to contribute.
