The girl, full of energy and a smile, did not recall any injury, and the bruises were painless.
The parents, concerned about these symptoms, immediately went to the family doctor.
The doctor, suspecting that the bruises might signal a more serious problem, ordered a blood count test. The results came in very quickly, and their analysis raised a reasonable suspicion of leukemia. The decision to refer Iga for further diagnostics was immediate, as the condition required urgent intervention.
Iga was taken to the hematology department in Szczecin, where comprehensive tests were started. The results confirmed the worst fears - acute myeloid leukemia was diagnosed. The disease required immediate action. Doctors started chemotherapy, which is the first step in the treatment process. We are currently waiting for the results of follow-up tests, which will indicate how Iga's body is responding to the therapy and determine the further treatment plan.
Every day in the fight against leukemia is a huge challenge for the whole family. In addition to the treatment itself, additional funds are needed for specialized care, proper diet, supplementation, and subsequent rehabilitation to help Iga return to full strength.
