Our baby daughter Tosia was just a year and a half old when the diagnosis turned our lives around in ways we couldn't have imagined.

From a happy baby, she became lethargic, stopped walking and had an unremitting subfebrile condition, and we parents began to look for the cause. An abdominal ultrasound, a urine test and culture, a blood draw. The result of the blood count showed many abnormalities, including a hemoglobin of 6.5. We immediately went to the hospital, where further diagnostics and blood transfusions were started. The next day, doctors informed us of the diagnosis - acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

At that moment, we had to suspend all of our previous lives. I gave up my job and discontinued my nursing studies because the only place I could be was in the hospital room at our daughter's bedside. We spent ten long, difficult weeks there, in which each day brought more anxiety and more questions. Antosia's dad, a paramedic who rescues others in liminal moments, faced an everyday reality that doesn't go away just because the disease stopped our family life. He combines work with caring for us, carrying a burden that is often beyond human strength in this reality.

Tosia underwent two sepsis, two broviac central catheter replacements, had a central catheter in her femoral vein leading to her heart... She suffered a lot. Chemotherapy caused her to stop walking, her facial nerve was also damaged, which caused her eyelids to droop, making it difficult to see as well.

Now our lives go on between long stays in the hospital and short moments at home - in our own bed.

Due to the type of disease and very low granulocytes , we have to live in almost sterile conditions. No contact with other people, family or friends. We disinfect all surfaces in the house and hospital room repeatedly so as not to expose Tosi to infection, and outside the house we have to stay in filter masks.

Constant examinations, checking platelet, hemoglobin and granulocyte levels are our daily routine. Every day we ask ourselves, can we go out into the hospital corridor today ? Will we qualify for the next chemotherapy ?

The treatment is very long... It lasts 3 years. This whole period is very difficult and stressful. Burdened with a huge risk of infection, at any moment sepsis and another threat to life can occur. We worry about every day, about every next cycle of chemotherapy, about later complications.

We are asking for your help. Help Tosia get through this journey and allow us to provide her with the best possible treatment. Your support and donated 1.5 percent of tax have a value for our daughter that cannot be measured. ❤️

There are children who enter the world of pain and silence too early. Antosia is traversing this path, although she doesn't yet understand its burden.
