The first symptoms suggested an infection, but very soon Anna was taken to the cardiology department with suspected heart failure. Urgent surgery was performed. Further tests revealed the presence of a tumor in the mediastinum. The diagnosis was unequivocal - large B-cell lymphoma. Treatment is ongoing, but the course of treatment is difficult and debilitating.

Symptoms that quickly escalated into a life-threatening condition
In October 2024, Anna began to experience severe shortness of breath and a marked decline in physical performance. Over time, a persistent cough appeared, which did not subside despite antibiotic therapy. The treatment provided by the family doctor did not bring any improvement, so Ania decided to seek specialist consultation.
The doctor, concerned about her low saturation level, immediately referred her to the hospital, where tests performed, including an EKG, showed heart abnormalities.
Lymphoma not eligible for surgery
The histopathological examination performed from the collected sample left no doubt - the diagnosis was large B-cell lymphoma with expression. The tumor was located in the mediastinum, in close proximity to the vessels and structures responsible for the normal function of the heart and respiratory system, so surgical removal was ruled out. Treatment could only begin with systemic chemotherapy.
The fluid in the pericardium was only an effect. The real danger turned out to be the tumor that was compressing the heart.
Anna began therapy, which from the beginning carried a severe burden on both body and psyche. As a result of the cytostatics, she developed a severe form of hemiplegia, which significantly worsened her general condition. Each successive cycle of treatment was associated with increasing weakness and a marked decline in well-being.
Treatment continues
At a later stage, doctors will decide whether to continue or change the treatment regimen based on imaging studies and the body's response to previous cycles. This process takes time, systematic medical care and considerable financial resources.
The tumor oppresses her heart, but it is the support of others that gives her breath.
