The first signal
In July 2025, Aneta noticed enlarged lymph nodes. She felt anxious, but hoped that the cause would turn out to be harmless. Her thoughts did not go so far as to imagine dramatic scenarios. Life wrote them itself.
The diagnosis was clear: stage III malignant breast cancer with lymph node involvement.
In an instant, the future ceased to be a space for plans and became a time that had to be filled with treatment.
Treatment
Aneta has been undergoing chemotherapy since September 2025. Sixteen cycles of treatment are planned, after which surgery will be possible. The next stages will include radiotherapy, targeted therapy, and rehabilitation.
The treatment saves lives, but it leaves its mark on the body. Cardiac arrhythmia, liver dysfunction, skin changes, and neuropathy appeared, which took away the feeling in my feet and made walking difficult. The body, which had previously carried me through everyday life effortlessly, began to require caution with every step.
The road
Aneta lives in Giżycko. Each cycle of chemotherapy means traveling about 170 kilometers. After treatment, she returns home alone, despite her exhaustion. There is no one to take on the burden of the return journey when her body is at the limit of its strength. There are journeys that do not end when you reach home.
Loneliness
Every day, Aneta is left alone with her illness and its consequences. This is not a loneliness of choice.
It is a loneliness that arises when life demands more than anyone around you is able to bear.
Ordinary things are no longer ordinary
The initial effects of treatment interrupted her professional activity. The strain on her body proved too great for her to continue working. Ordinary matters ceased to be ordinary. Everyday functioning began to require an effort that the disease left her without the strength to make.
What you can't see
The treatment itself is difficult. It becomes even more difficult when you go through the illness without the support of another person. You have to build another day with the last of your strength, despite exhaustion and pain. Not everything that requires the greatest courage is visible.
Aneta needs support today. Not so that someone else can take over her efforts, but so that the burden of her daily struggles does not take away the energy she needs to recover.
