Initially, the parents suspected that it might be the result of a minor injury or overload.
However, after about two weeks, in addition to pain, swelling began to appear, which raised their concern and prompted them to visit their family doctor. The doctor recommended a private ultrasound, which took place in early October. The results were worrisome - the test showed tissue changes, and an additional X-ray showed a defect in the bone, which required further, more advanced diagnostics.
Agnieszka was referred to the oncology department in Gdansk, where a number of detailed tests were performed, including a biopsy. The result of the biopsy was devastating - the girl received a diagnosis of osteosarcoma, a malignant bone tumor. The diagnosis came as a huge shock to the entire family.
Treatment was undertaken immediately, starting with intensive chemotherapy. Within eight weeks, Agnes underwent six cycles of chemotherapy, which unfortunately did not bring the expected results. Due to the lack of response to the treatment, it was decided to change the drug. In addition, doctors conducted a follow-up biopsy of the lymph nodes, as there were suspicions of metastasis, which required careful evaluation.
The next key stage of treatment will be a complex operation, during which it is planned to remove the tumor along with the affected part of the femur and implant an endoprosthesis. After the operation, it will be necessary to continue chemotherapy to minimize the risk of recurrence.
In addition to oncological treatment, Agnes faces long-term and intensive rehabilitation, necessary to regain full physical fitness. The girl also requires specialized care, including consultation with private physicians and proper diet and supplementation to support her weakened body.
The funds raised will be used to cover the cost of treatment, travel to the clinic in Krakow, hospital stays, the purchase of necessary supplements and specialized food, as well as to provide Agnieszka with intensive rehabilitation and access to the best possible methods to support her recovery. Any help is extremely valuable to give Agnieszka a chance to beat the disease and return to a normal life.
