We want to share the good news about Oryn
In July 2025, Oryna underwent a bone marrow transplant, which was successful, opening a new phase of treatment and hope for her. She is currently at home, where she continues her maintenance therapy, and comes to Cape of Hope for regular check-ups.The results show clear progress, and doctors are cautiously optimistic about how Oryn's body is rebuilding its strength after the long battle. The treatment was intensive, but it had the desired effect! The teenager was able to enjoy normalcy for the next three years.
In March 2022, after the outbreak of war in Ukraine, her beloved aunt decided to take her to Poland to give her a chance for a better life. At the time, her aunt noticed that Oryna was pale and weakened. She did blood tests and in May 2022 they heard another cruel diagnosis.
It turned out that the girl was struggling with acute myeloid leukemia. Once again, the teenager had to face the hardships of intensive treatment and a bone marrow transplant. For 2 years after the transplant, everything was fine. In the meantime, it turned out that Oryna has Li fraumeni syndrome, which affects the possibility of cancer. She is genetically burdened, the girl's mother got cancer twice and unfortunately lost the battle.
In December 2024, Oryna began to feel unwell again, there was a sharp drop in blood results. She underwent two bone marrow punctures, which confirmed the worst-Oryna still has myeloid leukemia. She now requires repeated treatment and a bone marrow transplant.
The girl's situation is very difficult, but doctors see hope!
This hope turned out to be a drug - Mylotarg, which is not reimbursed in 17-year-olds. The case is very urgent, so we very much ask for your support in this unfair and exhausting battle.
