In a split second, my life as I knew it ceased to exist.
On September 14, Kasia's life came to a sudden halt. The sudden paralysis of the right side of her body resembled a stroke, so the first few hours passed with a sense that time and neurological consequences were of the essence. However, an MRI scan interrupted this narrative with ruthless precision.
The image of three brain tumors, and paralysis as a result of effusion from one of them, became an answer that no one could bear.
The diagnosis, which came as a blow, was: glioblastoma multiforme. Glioblastoma. One of the most aggressive brain tumors.
Inoperable tumors and the only possible course of action
In November, Kasia underwent a course of radiotherapy lasting from November 17 to 28. This was the first stage of treatment, which offered a chance to slow down the disease, although it was not possible to surgically remove the lesions.

The next stage could be chemotherapy. There is one condition. Kasia must regain enough strength to be able to transfer herself to a wheelchair. Administering chemotherapy while she is lying down could lead to a rapid deterioration in her condition.
That is why rehabilitation is no longer just a form of support, but a prerequisite for survival. Without it, treatment cannot proceed.
Loss of independence
The paralysis is progressing. Kasia remains bedridden, completely dependent on her husband's care and her family's support. She suffers from anxiety and depression, which naturally arose with the irreversible loss of control over her body.
Focal epilepsy with partial seizures has also been diagnosed. She requires constant supervision and a safe environment. Kasi cannot be left alone even for a moment.
Everyday life filled with fear
Every movement, every action, and every night is a source of anxiety today. Fear of tomorrow and of what will happen to her body and consciousness accompanies Kasia constantly.
Her family does everything they can to create a safe space, but the disease fills every hour of the day, from morning until late at night. They try to preserve at least a semblance of normality, knowing that loneliness can hurt as much as the cancer itself.
A world that was once full of tenderness
Before her illness took away her mobility, Kasia bred Ragdoll cats for years. It was in her relationship with animals that she found peace, tenderness, and meaning.
Today, that world is inaccessible to her, but its traces still linger in her home, like an echo of the energy that was once such an important part of her life.
