It started with pain...
Brayan, though still so small, was clearly suffering. He became restless, irritable, and almost completely lost his appetite. Every bowel movement ended in pain, and his daily life was increasingly filled with crying.
When the complaints persisted and the body temperature began to rise alarmingly, the boy's mother went to the doctor. The pediatrician, recognizing the symptoms as the result of digestive disorders, prescribed medication to stimulate intestinal peristalsis. However, Brayan's condition was not improving. From hour to hour, it was apparent that the toddler was suffering more and more. Two days later, the boy was brought to the Hospital Emergency Department.
Diagnosis that forced immediate treatment
The very first imaging tests performed in the ED indicated the presence of a kidney tumor. The boy was immediately transported to a hospital in Szczecin. There - after in-depth diagnostics - the diagnosis was made: Wilms' tumor, a malignant pediatric neoplasm of the left kidney. Treatment, in the form of administration of chemotherapy, was started immediately. If the cancerous lesion shrinks, doctors will decide on surgery. Now each new imaging test is an awaited answer as to whether surgery will be possible.
Too soon for so much suffering
Brayan is struggling with more than just cancer. During his hospitalization, he was diagnosed with epilepsy and a congenital heart defect in the form of small atrial and interventricular septal defects. The cancer also compresses blood vessels, resulting in hypertension.
The fight for the boy's life goes on every day
The boy's treatment is taking place in the shadow of fear and uncertainty. Too much is going on in this little body. And yet Brayan, despite the pain and numerous aggravating procedures, faces the disease anew every day, as if he senses that this battle is about everything.
Brayan's family needs support for medications and supplements to support his weakened body during treatment. Added to this are the costs of travel to the hospital, out-of-queue examinations and small but necessary daily needs, such as specialized hygiene products, medical clothing and a modified diet. All this is done to make Brayan as comfortable as possible and to alleviate at least a little of his daily suffering.
