The initial signs did not indicate such a serious diagnosis.
In mid-December, Paweł began to experience headaches more and more frequently. These symptoms did not immediately cause serious concern. It was easy to dismiss them as a consequence of fatigue or tension accompanying intense work and daily responsibilities.
However, the episode that took place at the end of the year was not something that could be ignored. During a movie screening at the cinema, Paweł suddenly lost consciousness. This moment, seemingly brief and difficult to grasp, became the beginning of a series of events whose story is still being written.
The hospital stay and subsequent tests provided the answer. A CT scan revealed brain swelling, and an MRI confirmed the presence of a tumor.
The tumor has been removed. The disease requires further treatment.
From that moment on, everything happened very quickly. The decision was made to transport Paweł to a hospital in Poznań, where doctors qualified him for surgical treatment. The procedure was performed on January 12. Neurosurgeons managed to remove the tumor completely, which was the first and extremely important news for Paweł and his loved ones.
However, a full diagnosis brought awareness of the scale of the challenge. Histopathological examination confirmed glioblastoma multiforme, one of the most aggressive tumors of the central nervous system, which requires multi-stage therapy and long-term monitoring.
The operation was the beginning of treatment.
Intensive treatment continues. The next stage began in mid-February. Paweł is currently in hospital in Poznań, where he is undergoing radiotherapy and chemotherapy at the same time.
The treatment plan includes a six-week cycle of intensive therapy aimed at destroying any cancer cells that may remain in the body after surgery. Each day of treatment is a huge effort for the body, requiring both physical endurance and mental strength.
At times like these, it becomes particularly clear how valuable the presence of loved ones is.
The family had to rebuild their everyday life
Paweł is the sole breadwinner in the family. For years, his job has allowed him to support his family and provided his children with a sense of stability and a peaceful outlook on the future.
The diagnosis shattered this orderly everyday life. The need to interrupt work and focus all efforts on treatment changed the way they thought about the future, forced the family to reevaluate their plans, and took away the sense of security that had seemed so obvious just a short time before.
Paweł is accompanied in the hospital by his wife, who supports him every day during his hospitalization and subsequent stages of therapy.
The children stayed at home. The older daughter is studying, the younger one is looking for a job, and the youngest son is still in school. Finding balance in a reality that requires constant travel between home and a hospital several dozen kilometers away is difficult and exhausting.
