The disease that keeps coming back

It took almost a year from the first symptoms to the diagnosis. Severe abdominal pain and bleeding, which were initially tried to be explained by other causes, did not go away despite treatment. With each passing month, anxiety grew, and with it the realization that something serious was going on.

Finally, after a long diagnosis, the words were spoken that changed her life forever - malignant ovarian cancer.
It was the moment when the world came to a standstill and every breath became an effort. Thus began a struggle that continues to this day - a struggle full of hope, but also pain that does not let up.

Iwona - Budzichowska
Since 2018, Iwona has already undergone a number of procedures: removal of her left ovary, excision of tumors and numerous cancerous lesions in the pelvis, removal of the uterus, the greater web and the appendix. Each operation was a life-saving attempt, and each brought hope that this time the disease would go away.

Challenging treatment

Since August 2024, Iwona has been receiving intensive chemotherapy based on paclitaxel and carboplatin. This is a debilitating treatment, and side effects such as weakness, nausea, loss of hair and appetite have become a daily occurrence.
As if that weren't enough, the cancer disease is accompanied by complications from a ruptured brain aneurysm. Double vision, fainting, and loss of independence have meant that every simplest activity today requires tremendous effort.

Despite everything, Iwona still does not give up. Although infiltrative lesions are rolling around in her body, and urinary stasis has forced the placement of a bilateral nephrostomy, she gets up every day with the thought that she must fight - for herself, for her children, for her grandchildren.

Daily life with limitations

Iwona lives in a house near Wroclaw. She is accompanied in her daily life by her son and daughters, and support is also provided by her adult daughter, who helps as much as she can with her mother's care.
The disease has taken away her strength and independence. Cleaning, meal preparation, shopping - all require assistance and planning. However, Iwona still tries to remain cheerful.
When a weaker day comes, she reaches for a book or sits down at her sewing machine. Then, for a while, the old normalcy returns - the one where life didn't run to the rhythm of doctor's appointments and treatments.

In the moments of silence between examinations, she tries not to think about the disease. She believes that there will still come a time when her body will no longer be a battlefield.

Every day for Ivona is a lesson in quiet courage, without loud words, but true.
Help Iwona in this struggle so that she can continue to live with the hope that tomorrow will be more peaceful.
