The disturbing symptom was just the beginning

It all started inconspicuously. Tosia's mother noticed that her daughter was having trouble urinating. A doctor's consultation and the implementation of antibiotic treatment only brought relief for a while. Then a hard lump appeared on her buttock. A small signal that changed everything. The pediatrician referred the girl for tests. An ultrasound was performed, after which a biopsy was ordered at the hospital's pediatric surgery department.
And although no one had said anything directly yet, you could feel the imminent danger in the air. Tosi's mother knew that the story was just taking a turn that no mother ever wants to know.

The diagnosis that shattered the whole world

When Tosia was brought to the "Cape of Hope" in Wroclaw, no one tried to reassure anymore. No one said that it was definitely nothing dangerous. Instead, there were the stares one avoids when one knows the truth, but doesn't want to speak it yet.
Mom sat by her daughter's bedside and waited. First for the doctor, then for the results, and finally for the words that would change everything.
And finally she heard: soft tissue sarcoma. It was not a benign form, not the beginning. It was already stage IV with metastasis to the pelvis and lungs.
Tosia was only three years old, and she was developing a cancer so advanced in her body that its sheer size seemed incompatible with a child's smallness. Just a short while ago, full of life, Tosia was suddenly about to embark on a battle that no child should ever have to fight.

Life locked in a hospital room

On January 12,Tosia received her first dose of chemotherapy. Since then, most of her time has consisted of stays in the clinic, more IVs, tests, parameters. "Cape of Hope" has become a home where there are no favorite toys, no siblings and where there is no normal rhythm of the day. Next to her, fortunately, is mom. Always present, cuddling, watching constantly. There are three siblings waiting at home. Every day they ask when Tosia will return....
