Home is no longer just one place

A few months ago, Kacper told his parents about a small change on his palate. It didn't look serious, but they immediately began searching for answers. Specialist visits, tests, and further consultations did not yield a clear diagnosis for a long time. It was only after a biopsy performed in the otolaryngology department that the diagnosis was made: rhabdomyosarcoma.

The disease was detected at an early stage, with no signs of metastasis. The tumor is located in one place. This news brings relief, but it does not remove the fear that enters the family's life with the diagnosis itself.

The hospital has become the new normal

In February, Kacper was admitted to a pediatric oncology center. Extended diagnostics confirmed the earlier findings and ruled out further foci of the disease. The results brought cautious relief.

The lump was removed with a laser. The swelling that developed after the procedure made it difficult to swallow and breathe. For several days , Kacper was unable to eat or drink. Chemotherapy began soon after, bringing with it nausea, vomiting, and severe weakness, which are difficult experiences for a child to bear.

The family tries to maintain balance

Today, the family lives in two realities. Dad, who suffered a stroke a year ago, is in the hospital with his son. Mom works and takes care of Kacper's younger brother. Six-year-old Wojtek knows that his brother is sick, but his parents try to protect him from the burden of details.

This is not just a division of responsibilities. It is an effort to keep the family together despite everything that is happening at the same time.

Kacper remains himself

At home, he has a mini garden where he grows his own vegetables. The greenhouse, which he saved up for, is ready for another season. Kacper searches for old bicycles and renovates them with the patience and pride of a collector. He also enjoys fishing, where he finds peace, focus, and closeness to nature.

These tiny worlds allow him to maintain a sense of continuity and childhood.

Strength is needed not only for healing

Kacper faces further stages of therapy, hospitalizations, and recovery time. His family faces the challenge of organizing their lives in conditions that require constant commuting, treatment, rehabilitation, and a specialized diet.
