Update
It is with deep sadness that we announce that Ivan has passed away...
Recently, he had been fighting an extremely difficult battle with his illness. Despite the tremendous effort and dedication of many people, they were unable to stop it.
Ivan was only nine years old.
His passing leaves a void that cannot be put into words. What remains are memories of him and of all that he brought to the lives of his loved ones.
During this difficult time, our thoughts are with the family. We offer our deepest condolences and share in their grief.
Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey. March 24, 2026

When a simple ailment turns into a diagnosis
The pain in his side, which over time was combined with a persistent headache, might have seemed ordinary. After all, in children, especially vigorous ones like Ivan, similar complaints are common. But when the daily complaints were joined by a rash, there was an alarming sign. Follow-up examinations left no illusions - the results were bad. Instead of the expected diagnosis of a trivial infection , the words were heavy, harsh and merciless: acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
The way through treatment
That same day , Ivan was taken to the hospital by ambulance. From that moment on, his life turned into a constant march through cancer wards, chemotherapy cycles, tests and hospital nights.
Despite his own suffering, he was able to lift the spirits of others, as if he had always known that strength is not only a healthy body, but also a heart that does not give in to doubt.
Extra weight: the Nijmegen team
Ivan was born with Nijmegen syndrome, a rare genetic condition that lowers immunity and significantly increases the risk of cancer. It also makes cancer treatment sometimes more difficult and has a higher risk of complications.
Hope dashed by relapse
In the summer, Ivan underwent a bone marrow transplant. It seemed that a new chapter was beginning. After months of struggle, hope came - remission. The family dreamed that it was over, that the days of peace would finally come. Unfortunately, the disease returned, this time even more ruthless. Doctors detected cancer cells - this time in the spinal-neural fluid. The resurgence means one thing: the need for another bone marrow transplant. The first one wasn't enough. Now Ivan has to go through everything again.
Intensive care and the road to a second transplant
Ivan is currently undergoing further doses of chemotherapy. Ahead of him is a second transplant - the only real chance to stop the disease, which has already reached the central nervous system. Every day of delay is a risk that cannot be taken. The boy is under the care of a medical team in Wroclaw. and the family - in addition to the emotional effort - is financing the necessary antifungal prophylaxis themselves.
They also have months of rehabilitation and preparation for the transplant ahead of them. A second transplant is the only way to save his life.
Ordinary dreams - priceless
Ivan is still a child who longs for what others take for granted - carefree play in the yard, laughter with friends, a quick "I'm coming!" when someone calls out from under the house. The price he pays is dramatically high: his childhood slips away between drips, and his world has the colors of hospital walls instead of colors. Yet these simple, ordinary dreams are the most precious to him - and still worth fighting for, we ask today.
