Use of 1.5% tax – your decision is important!
Are you filing your annual tax return? Choose a public benefit organization (OPP) to receive part of your tax! Many people do not take advantage of this opportunity, fearing that their 1.5% tax is too small an amount. Nothing could be further from the truth. Unused 1.5% tax is an unused opportunity to help someone who really needs it. Even PLN 1 matters – if 300 people contribute this amount, we already have PLN 300 to meet the needs of the foundation and its beneficiaries. In the case of fundraising for medical treatment, every amount is of great importance. Every amount also gives another dose of hope to the sick. Motivation to fight.
What happens when a taxpayer does not designate a social organization? Someone may be forced to postpone the purchase of necessary medical equipment or the start of non-reimbursable therapy. Without our help and without allocating 1.5% of tax to a public benefit organization, many people will be deprived of support that is so valuable to them. Very often, the help provided by public benefit organizations is the last resort for patients when all forms of assistance provided by the state, as part of the National Health Fund treatment, have already been used or have not brought the expected results.
Does the specified portion of the tax go directly to those in need?
If you indicate a public benefit organization in your tax return to which you want to donate 1.5% of your tax due, the tax office will send it to the PBO on your behalf. By choosing a foundation, you donate your tax to the implementation of its statutory objectives. The aid goes where it is most needed at the moment. If you indicate a specific purpose in your tax return, e.g., a specific person you want to support, 1.5% of your tax will go to that person.

Does not indicating the organization affect the state budget?
Yes. Not specifying an organization in your PIT return is equivalent to not allocating 1.5% of your tax to a public benefit organization. This means that your tax due will go entirely to the State Treasury, forming part of its income.
The state uses tax revenues for social and economic purposes and to carry out tasks that ensure the functioning of the state. These include building roads and kindergartens, paying benefits and allowances, and supporting public health care and public transport.
The unused 1.5% tax does not mean that this amount is lost. However, it does mean that you cannot decide for yourself how it will be spent.
Why is it worth indicating the organization in your tax return?
By allocating 1.5% of your tax liability, you choose a specific person or foundation that you want to help. Perhaps someone in your community is raising funds for medical treatment? Or maybe a public benefit organization is particularly close to your heart because of the nature of its activities or the support it has given you or someone close to you? Using 1.5% of your tax is an opportunity for someone else and a real way for you to help.

Where do the funds from the portion of tax indicated in the PIT go?
The allocation of 1.5% of tax depends on two things.
- Who you give your 1.5% to – whether you allocate it to a foundation or specify a specific purpose in your tax return. The foundation distributes the collected 1.5% to its activities and support for its beneficiaries. Specifying a specific purpose allows a given person to use the 1.5% for their own purposes, as described in their collection;
- The statutory objectives of the foundation. The statutory objectives of the foundation result from the nature of its activities. The 1.5% tax is a contribution towards the treatment of cancer patients, including the possibility of starting non-reimbursable therapies, which are often the only chance to stop the disease or restore the patient's health. At Cancer Fighters, we provide psychological support to both cancer patients and their loved ones. Depending on their needs, this support takes the form of consultations, workshops, and group therapy.
-
rehabilitation
The use of 1.5% of tax may be related to the purchase of rehabilitation equipment for patients or subsidizing rehabilitation stays for the foundation's charges.
-
welfare
Many foundations, including ours, support beneficiaries in their everyday lives by offering social assistance. This makes it possible to take care of both the patient and their loved ones. Purchasing food, fuel, and clothing. This is particularly important when the cancer patient is the main breadwinner of the family.
-
motivational events, charity campaigns
