When treatment does not stop the disease
Oksana's illness developed quietly. The first worrying symptoms appeared at the end of February 2025 and took the form of intermenstrual bleeding. Further diagnostics led to a clear diagnosis: malignant cervical cancer C53.9 in stage C1 according to the FIGO classification.
Over time, imaging tests revealed further foci of the disease. Metastatic lesions appeared under the mesenteric lining, in the area of the diaphragm and liver, as well as in the L3 vertebral body, where a focus suggestive of bone metastasis is visible.
Oksana underwent intensive oncological treatment. Four cycles of carboplatin- and paclitaxel-based chemotherapy and antihemorrhagic radiotherapy were administered . Despite these measures, there was no response to treatment. Subsequent imaging tests confirmed disease progression, which led to the termination of first-line therapy.
Oksana is currently undergoing palliative care, including symptomatic and pain relief therapy. She has undergone numerous follow-up examinations, including MRI, CT, and PET-CT scans, which have confirmed the advanced stage of the disease.
The body under increasing strain
The progression of the disease brings further complications. The tumor led to compression of the ureters, which required bilateral nephrostomy. Before the procedure, creatinine levels reached 3.3, and although they have now returned to normal, daily functioning remains significantly limited.
In addition, Oksana struggles with swelling in her lower limbs resulting from protein deficiency, which significantly impedes her mobility and exacerbates her physical weakness. Every day brings pain, fatigue, and increasing dependence on the help of others.
Searching for another path
Despite the very difficult situation, Oksana is not giving up the fight.
This is currently the only chance to take further therapeutic steps that could slow down the disease and bring relief from suffering.
A life subordinated to illness
Cancer completely changed Oksana's life. The disease led to total incapacity for work, a significant reduction in independence, and the need for constant care. Severe pain, increasing weakness, and difficulty moving became part of everyday life.
The long-term treatment and progression of the disease have also had a profound impact on her family, financial, and emotional situation. Stress, anxiety, and mental exhaustion accompany her every day.
