The illness came overnight.
It's hard to believe how changeable life can be. One day it's peaceful, and the next it suddenly reveals a completely different perspective, where there is fear for your life, pain, and isolation, and everything that was obvious until now loses its meaning.
Illness instantly changes the way you see the world and resets your priorities.
Kostka's story is a poignant example of this. Within a few hours, concern for his health overshadowed everything else. On November 5, 2025 , the lymph nodes in the boy's neck began to swell rapidly, reaching the size of a golf ball within hours.
His parents reacted immediately. The very next day , a blood count revealed extremely high white blood cell levels. This was enough to send Kostka to the hospital without delay.
Tests carried out in the pediatric ward revealed an enlarged spleen, liver, and lymph nodes in his armpits. After a few days of observation and testing, Kostek returned home, but the calm was only superficial. Initially, mononucleosis was suspected. However, the results that arrived the following week ruled out this diagnosis and led to the family being urgently referred to Przylądek Nadziei (Cape of Hope) in Wrocław.

Faced with a diagnosis
Extensive diagnostics provided a clear answer. Acute T-cell lymphoblastic leukemia. Fear reached a level that paralyzed and robbed me of my ability to think, while at the same time leaving me no time to pause. An assigned room, more tests, waiting for results, and tension that never let up for a moment.
A puncture was performed and bone marrow compatibility tests were initiated. For a while, the treatment was effective. The number of cancer cells began to decline, and with it, fragile hope returned. Then came another piece of news that once again robbed the family of their sense of security. The cancer cells had started to grow again.
The uncertainty of tomorrow inherent in treatment
During treatment, liver problems arose, which fortunately were brought under control. Today, the biggest challenge is very low blood counts. Kostek requires regular blood and platelet transfusions, and some tests must be postponed until his body is able to safely accept them.
The boy also struggles with weakness in his legs. Moving around is difficult for him, and his mother has to take a wheelchair with her on longer outings. For a child who, until recently, lived for sports—scooters, BMX bikes, boxing, and swimming—this is another painful loss.
Round-the-clock care
Kostek is in the hospital, and his parents take turns caring for him. His younger brother, with whom Kostek was very close, stayed at home. The separation is extremely difficult for both boys. Every day brings new questions, anxiety about the results, and fear of what tomorrow will bring.
Fighting disease requires resources
Cancer treatment is a constant balancing act between what is urgent and what can be postponed. It is a search for savings at the expense of everything that can be put off until later. At some point, however, there is nothing left to give up. What remains is the fear of whether it will be possible to provide everything that is necessary, and the fear of choices that no family should ever have to face.
This appeal is an attempt to protect Kostka's loved ones from such dilemmas. We ask for your support so that we can focus on what is most important: the treatment, care, and fight for the health of an eight-year-old boy.
