The daily struggle in the comfort of home and the beginning of a dramatic diagnosis
Untilrecently, Alinaled a quiet family life. Today, her daily routine consists of battling illness, pain, and immense uncertainty about tomorrow. The disease came suddenly and without warning, taking away her sense of security and normality. At the end of October 2024, the first worrying symptoms appeared—rectal bleeding. Tests quickly confirmed the worst-case scenario:a malignant tumor with numerous metastases. An immediate, exhausting fight for her life began.
Treatment that exhausted the body
Ms. Alina underwent16 cycles of chemotherapy, administered in three-day cycles—a total of768 hours of chemotherapyat the oncology ward on Solidarności Avenue in Warsaw. The treatment was extremely taxing, so the doctors decided to take a two-month break to prepare her body for surgery. The procedure took placeon November 24, 2025. Unfortunately, serious complications arose after just one week. After another two weeks,a second, urgent operationwas necessary—a 10 cm abscess had formed in his pelvis.
After the operation, the doctor gave the family the devastating news that Alina might not live to see Christmas. It was suggested that she be transferred to the palliative care ward.
Home instead of hospital
The family made the most difficult decision—palliative care at home. Alina returned to her home, where, under her husband's round-the-clock care, she fights for each new day. Headministers IVs, gives injections, cares for her, and watches over her. For many weeks, he traveled up to170 kilometers one way to learn how to care for her and help at the hospital. Every day, he massaged his wife's legs, fighting lymphatic edema and ascites. Today, Alina also struggles withhypertension, breathing problems, heart disease, and her most serious opponent remainsmetastatic cancer.
A family on the brink
Alina's illness has affected the whole family's life. Both spouses live solely ondisability benefits—Alina receivesPLN 1,985.21 and her husbandPLN 524.22 per month. They run a small farm, which does not generate any income. Despite being classified as havinga Group I disability, the family was denied additional financial support. An appeal has been filed, but there has been no response yet. In addition, Ms. Alina's husband is seriously ill himself, struggling withdiabetes, thyroid disease (Hashimoto's), heart disease, andsevere nervous urticaria, which has worsened significantly in recent weeks.
Today, they are fighting for dignity and peace.
Currently, the familylacks the funds for IV drips, medications, medical supplies, and further care, without which home palliative care is not possible. They are practically alone, without systemic support or real means of subsistence.
The funds raised will be used forAlina's further treatment, medication, IV drips, and necessary medical supplies that will allow her to spend this time at home, with dignity, peace, and the closeness of her loved ones. For Alina and her husband, every contribution is not only financial assistance, but above all a sign thatthey are not aloneon this extremely difficult journey.
