Explore the history of
His peaceful and carefree childhood was unexpectedly interrupted by serious health problems.
In early May 2024, he developed nosebleeds. Although our Warrior was under the constant care of a gastroenterologist, the hemorrhages constantly recurred, and in mid-June Mom noticed many bruises scattered all over Olek's body, especially on his legs.
Concerned parents contacted a pediatrician, who is also an oncologist. This one had no doubt that something wrong was going on and immediately referred the family for further diagnostics. A series of tests, including a blood count, showed alarming results. Blood tests indicated thrombocytopenia, and doctors suspected that Olek might have leukemia. Two days later, bone marrow tests confirmed this diagnosis.
Shortly thereafter, our charge was already in the midst of his first cycle of chemotherapy, which he began receiving on June 15. Six cycles are planned, with administration scheduled to last until March 2025. Olek's treatment is intensive, and check-ups so far have indicated positive results. Unfortunately, as is usually the case with highly taxing treatment, there have also been negative effects in the form of increased cerebrospinal fluid pressure and vaginitis.
At the beginning of July 2024, our Warrior underwent surgery on his hand, as a staph infection set in. Due to prolonged lack of movement, Olek also developed muscle contracture, and therefore requires rehabilitation.
This is just the beginning of a long road for our client. After the end of chemotherapy, intensive rehabilitation and regular check-ups await him. We strongly encourage you to support Olek and his parents in this very difficult and demanding time! All funds donated to the collection will be used to support the boy's treatment and rehabilitation.
