Update

The course of Staś's treatment
Staś's health is currently described as average. After the last six chemotherapy infusions, side effects in the form of vomiting appeared, but despite the difficult treatment, Staś is still able to smile and find the strength to play. At the moment, the boy is struggling with a decline in blood parameters after chemotherapy, which prevents him from continuing the next stage of treatment. The test results do not yet allow for the start of the 64th day of therapy, during which bone marrow collection, lumbar puncture, and another dose of chemotherapy are planned.
Waiting for further decisions from doctors
Doctors are waiting for test results to improve so that the planned procedures can be performed. After the bone marrow is collected and the results are obtained—usually after about two weeks—it will be possible to assess more accurately how Staś's body is responding to treatment and whether the residual disease will be eliminated. At this point, residual disease remains positive, which is why each subsequent stage of therapy is extremely important. The family is eagerly awaiting the moment when treatment can resume. The body gave the signal

At the end of November 2025, Staś's parents began to notice changes that they could not yet clearly identify. Bruises appeared on his body in places where they should not have been. He became more irritable and restless, as if something was gradually throwing him off balance. A little later, small bruises appeared on his legs.

It took only a few days for ordinary anxiety to turn into fear that robbed us of sleep and peace of mind. Our thoughts began to revolve around one question, uttered ever more quietly and with ever greater fear. What is happening to our child?

Diagnosis

The diagnosis came quickly, almost immediately, without time to come to terms with it. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia. A disease that, at the age of one and a half, sounds like something completely contrary to the order of the world.

Staś was admitted to hospital. A Broviac catheter was inserted. In December, chemotherapy treatment began according to the AIEOP BFM 2017 Poland protocol. From that moment on, time stopped flowing as it had before. Days began to be divided into moments before and after the examination, into waiting, which filled everything.

Mom by the bed, home on the other side

Stasia's mother is with him constantly. She doesn't work. Her entire daily life revolves around her son's treatment, watching over him and being there where she needs to be.

His five-year-old brother Franek stayed at home. Staś's illness affected him too. His mother is not there when he falls asleep, when it's time to eat, when something important happens that he would like to share immediately. His longing has no time frame or promise of return that could be counted in days or mornings. It is undefined and painful, which is why it often ends in tears and questions that have no simple answers.

Today, parents are torn between the hospital and home, between the needs of two children. Their concern has two places of residence, and in neither of them does it feel entirely sufficient.

Everyday life requires strength

The hardest days are the ordinary ones. The ones without breakthroughs, without news that brings relief. Days when your thoughts keep returning to the darkest scenarios, and it takes enormous effort to chase them away. Days when you just have to persevere.

The treatment of leukemia is a long, multi-stage process. It affects the body, motor skills, and development that was just beginning. It requires rehabilitation to regain what the disease takes away, and psychological support to rebuild a sense of security after living in a state of constant danger. None of this happens quickly or on its own.

Why we are asking for your support

We cannot change the diagnosis or undo what the disease has brought into this family's life . However, we can help ensure that the financial burden does not become another source of anxiety.
This support does not change the medical facts, but it significantly changes everyday life. It gives the family a breather at a time that requires more strength than anyone should have to muster.
