The disease came quietly, hiding under the mask of innocent pain
At first, nothing heralded tragedy. A seemingly innocent pain in the buttock that was supposed to be the result of strain or a tubercular sciatica turned out to be a rare and very aggressive Ewing's sarcoma of the pelvis (now at an advanced stage). The tumor was growing, and with it a list of symptoms - pain in the head, neck, spine and legs, swelling, tingling in the hands, loss of feeling in the back of the left leg.
Until recently, Lucia could neither sit nor walk - any movement was a source of suffering. Today, after months of intensive treatment, she is moving on her own. However, this is only the beginning of a road where her life is at stake.
Non-operational opponent
The location of the tumor makes surgery impossible. The only chance to beat the disease is a combination of chemotherapy and radiation therapy with immunotherapy, which can stop the growth of the tumor and protect against recurrence.
The problem is that Lucia ended up in the control group in a clinical trial - immunotherapy reimbursement is impossible. That leaves the only way: private treatment.
The cost? PLN 200,000 for one infusion. A minimum of six are needed - a total of PLN 1,200,000.
The limit of life
The disease has already taken Lucia to the brink once. In December, after another cycle of chemotherapy, a dangerous bacteria entered her body. Septic shock, ICU, intubation - doctors fought for every second of her life. She won. She returned to her parents, but the fear of another crisis is still with them.
Lucia has undergone pelvic radiation therapy (30 exposures), two bacterial flora transplants, countless blood and platelet transfusions, and every day means the risk of more complications.
A girl with a heart of gold
Lucja is not only a musically and artistically talented girl. She is a person with a big heart, always ready to help. Today, she herself needs support to be able to return to playing the violin, to school, to a normal life.
