First symptoms

In August 2022, it all started with something that seemed insignificant at first. Kinga would wake up in the middle of the night with a dull ache in her leg that kept her from falling back asleep. Then she began to limp. Every step Kinga took was cautious, as if her body had started setting limits.

During our visit to the doctor, my daughter was given referrals for further tests. As a mother, I was scared, because Kinga had already received a serious diagnosis once before.

Resume

Unfortunately, we received yet another devastating diagnosis: a recurrence of Ewing’s sarcoma. It was a moment that brought our daily lives to a halt once again and forced us to face the disease anew, despite all our struggles and hopes up to that point.

In late April, Kinga underwent an amputation of her left lower limb, including disarticulation at the hip joint. Since then, Kinga’s body has been learning about the world all over again, and the world has been getting to know her anew. Different, yet still the same on the inside.

Treatment plan

Today, Kinga is undergoing post-surgery chemotherapy. More IV treatments, more days spent following the relentless rhythm of treatment, which offers no respite but slowly guides her through a process aimed at stopping the disease.

Doctors are still analyzing, planning, and looking for the best course of further treatment.

A Quiet Present

At home is Joanna, Kinga’s younger sister, who misses her terribly. She misses the simple things that used to be so natural: leisurely conversations together, laughter that filled the room, little arguments over nothing, and making up right away. Now, instead, there are text messages, moments of silence, and waiting.

A Colorful World

Before, Kinga lived in a world full of colors and sounds. Anime gave her excitement and stories, cosplay let her become someone else for a moment, motorcycles symbolized freedom, and music was a way to express what couldn’t be put into words.

Behind it all, there was one thing—the most important thing—a dream: a trip to Japan.

Today, the world will have to wait. Treating my Ewing’s sarcoma recurrence has become my top priority, and my days are filled with hospital visits, tests, and the fight to stay healthy.

Leg prosthesis

Today, Kinga is facing another difficult stage in her journey. Due to her illness and treatment, she needs a prosthetic leg that will allow her to regain at least some of her mobility and independence.

This is the moment when, in addition to the fight for health, there is also a fight for everyday life: for the ability to move around, to return to simple things, and to build a new normal, step by step.

Every bit of help matters greatly right now. Thanks to it, Kinga may get a chance to function better.
