Diagnosis
In 2021, during a mammogram, the doctor noticed an abnormal lesion in my right breast. I was referred for further diagnostic tests. One of them was a biopsy.
Shortly thereafter, I received the diagnosis: cancer of the right breast.
I remember that moment perfectly. In an instant, everything fell silent, as if the world had come to a standstill for a moment.
Next steps
For me, the palliative surgery was like an attempt to stop time. It was as if, through it, I could also stop the disease, close that chapter, and return to my normal life. The treatment was intense, but at the time I believed that the hardest part was already behind me.
Metastases
A few years later, I heard words that turned everything upside down again. Metastasis to the subclavian lymph nodes. I remember how everything suddenly became so overwhelming. It was as if someone had cut me off from reality for a moment, before it had fully sunk in.
Everything I knew all too well was back: the exhaustion, the uncertainty, waiting for test results, living from one doctor’s appointment to the next.
Everyday Life
I've already gone through radiation therapy and chemotherapy.
I’m still undergoing treatment today. Palliative immunotherapy has become part of my daily routine, a quiet backdrop to the life going on around me, but my body isn’t the same anymore. I have neuropathy. It’s a strange, hard-to-describe sensation, as if my hands and feet aren’t quite my own sometimes. As if the signals don’t always reach where they’re supposed to.
On top of that, there are abnormal blood test results, which serve as a reminder that this story is still unfolding—that this isn’t a closed chapter, but a process in which I’m learning to live anew. With uncertainty and caution.
I also struggle with Hashimoto’s disease, which slowly saps my energy every day. My high blood pressure is a constant reminder of its presence, and I have frequent digestive issues.
Support
My husband and son have been a great source of support to me in this difficult struggle. They are by my side every day.
In those better moments, I return to the little things that give me a breather. I play with my beloved dogs, and for a moment, the world slows down. There’s something simple and genuine about it, as if, for a moment, everything falls into place exactly as it should.
Request for help
Medications, medical tests, and physical therapy give me a chance to function better, but they also come with costs that are becoming increasingly difficult for me to bear. That is why I am asking for your support. Every bit of help brings me one step closer to a more peaceful tomorrow.
