Physical education classes

In November 2023, during a physical education class at school, our daughter, Gabriela, felt a sharp pain in her right leg. At first, we weren’t particularly concerned. It seemed like a minor injury that would go away soon.

However, as the days went by, the pain didn't go away. Instead of fading, it became increasingly bothersome. That's when we decided to see a doctor, who ordered several urgent tests.

The results left no room for doubt, and the doctors grew increasingly concerned. Everything happened very quickly. Overnight, we found ourselves in a situation no parent ever wants to face. A biopsy was ordered immediately, and we lived in a state of limbo between hope and fear, trying to believe that it was all a mistake.

Diagnosis

While we waited for the results, every phone call made our hearts race, and every conversation raised more questions. We tried to stay strong for Gabriela, even though we ourselves felt a growing sense of fear and helplessness.

The diagnosis came sooner than we expected. One word was enough to make our world come to a standstill for a moment: osteosarcoma—a malignant bone tumor.

Our everyday life

Today, Gabriela faces the consequences of her illness and treatment every day. In addition to losing her leg, she also struggles with kidney problems that require constant monitoring. Her daily life isn’t just about school, dreams, and fun, like that of her peers, but also includes doctor’s visits, medical tests, and constant concern for her health.

Our daughter remains under the constant care of specialists at the oncology and surgical clinics at the Mother and Child Institute in Warsaw. Despite all the challenges she faces, Gabriela shows extraordinary strength and courage every day. She teaches us what true struggle, determination, and hope really mean.

Support from siblings

From the very beginning of her illness, her brother Przemek and sister Emilia were a great source of support for Gabrysia. They were by her side during the hardest times: during her hospital stays, her medical tests, and her treatment. Whenever she was feeling down, they did their best to make her smile.

The next step

Gabrysia is about to take another important step in her life. Starting next year, she will begin attending high school 20 kilometers from home.

Unfortunately, the effects of her illness are a constant part of her daily life. Losing her leg means that even the simplest tasks require much more effort on her part. Getting to school, moving between classrooms, climbing stairs, or simply meeting up with friends have become daily challenges.

Please support

We want to provide Gabrysia with a modern prosthetic limb that will allow her to regain greater independence, freedom, and comfort of movement. For her, this is not just a piece of medical equipment. It is a chance at a normal life. A chance at independence, self-confidence, and the opportunity to live the life of a teenager without constantly feeling that her illness continues to limit her world.

We sincerely ask for your support. Every bit of help brings Gabrysia one step closer to regaining her health, independence, and the childhood that her illness has tried to take away from her.
