The disease doesn't always start with obvious symptoms

Ewa didn’t have any symptoms that clearly pointed to a serious illness. She only experienced discomfort after meals and a feeling of fullness, which was easy to brush off. However, she knew her body well. She was slim and physically fit, so those signs were enough for her to decide to get tested.

The diagnosis comes later than it should

In September 2022, a laparoscopy was performed and the adnexa were removed. We had to wait over two months for the histopathology results. The diagnosis was clear-cut. High-grade serous ovarian cancer, with spread within the abdominal cavity. The lesions also involved the intestines, and ascites developed. This is the point at which the disease is already advanced.

Not every operation can be completed

In January 2023, an attempt was made to treat the condition surgically. The plan was to remove the cancerous lesions. This proved impossible, as the extent of the disease was too widespread. Only tissue samples were taken for further diagnostic testing. The body reacted with severe inflammation. A prolonged course of antibiotic therapy was necessary, after which systemic treatment could begin.

Treatment doesn't always go as planned

Ewa underwent eleven cycles of chemotherapy. The treatment was interrupted several times due to complications. She developed heart rhythm disorders, high blood pressure, chronic inflammation, neuropathy, sensory disturbances in her limbs, memory and concentration problems, as well as symptoms of depression. Her body responded to the treatment, but at the same time paid a heavy price for it.

The illness has subsided, but its effects remain

Currently, the disease remains in remission. This is important information, but it does not mean a return to my previous state of health. Every day still requires effort. There are times when even simple tasks become difficult to perform. My body remains weakened.

You have to start over

Ewa had to quit her job. Her daily life revolves around rehabilitation and gradually regaining her strength. During this time, her husband remains her greatest source of support, having taken on the responsibility of running the household. This is a change that affects her entire life, not just her health. It is a phase with no clear endpoint. Treatment has ended, but the process of regaining her physical abilities is still ongoing. It requires time, consistency, and proper support for her body.

Not everything comes back on its own

In this situation, the most important thing is to ensure that further rehabilitation remains an option. Regaining balance is not a single moment in time, but a process that takes place over time.

Support doesn't speed everything up. However, it does allow us to keep doing what needs to be done right now.
