Overwhelming pain
On December 14, 2025 , Olek experienced severe lumbar pain that spread throughout his entire body from the waist down. It was so intense that it literally paralyzed his ability to move. Within a short time, he developed a high fever, exceeding 38 degrees Celsius.
The paramedics who were called to the scene determined that the cause of the pain was sciatica. Steroids were administered and the pain subsided for a moment. A few hours later, in the middle of the night, however, it returned with double the intensity. Another request for an ambulance was refused, so Olek's parents, without waiting any longer, took him to the hospital on Koszarowa Street in Wrocław themselves.
The boy was admitted to the ward and placed under observation. The laboratory tests that were ordered yielded results that immediately raised serious concerns.
Diagnosis
Olek was urgently transported by ambulance to the "Przylądek Nadziei" Children's Oncology and Hematology Clinic. Intensive diagnostics began, which quickly yielded a clear answer: acute lymphoblastic leukemia type B.
For a thirteen-year-old boy who had just begun to come to terms with his diagnosis of Asperger's syndrome and was facing emotional burdens, this news was completely incomprehensible and overwhelming. The illness came suddenly, without warning, robbing him of his abilities, his sense of security, and the predictability of everyday life.
Hospital reality and suffering
Olek is currently staying at Przylądek Nadziei (Cape of Hope). He is unable to move independently. He is taking steroids, antifungal drugs, and anticoagulants to prepare his body for chemotherapy. He will receive his first dose on Christmas Day.
The most difficult moments are when the pain becomes so intense that Olek curls up and cries. For parents, this is an experience that cannot be described in words. Seeing your own child suffer, without the ability to immediately relieve their pain, is a trial that breaks your heart every day.
Additional charges
Olek has Asperger's syndrome, which was only recently diagnosed after an exceptionally difficult year. He also struggles with depression. The new reality of the hospital, medical procedures, pain, and constant uncertainty is particularly difficult for him to accept . The changes, sensory overload, and lack of control over his own body intensify his anxiety and sense of confusion.
He has already undergone two punctures, bone marrow and cerebrospinal fluid collection. The next stages of treatment will depend on how his body responds to chemotherapy.
All forces focused on saving the child
Both his mother and father are currently unemployed. They have completely devoted their lives to caring for their sick son. Olek's older brother, 15-year-old Igor, is very worried about his younger brother and tries to support him as best he can, even though he himself is also struggling with enormous anxiety.
One child's illness has brought the whole family's life to a standstill. Every day is dominated by treatment, pain, and waiting for the next test results.
Who is Olek beyond his illness?
Olek has artistic talents. He likes to make jewelry and is interested in manga, computer games, and Japanese culture. He dreams of going there one day. Today, these interests are a quiet refuge for him, a world to which he escapes in his thoughts when pain and fear allow him to do so for a moment.
Why we are asking for your support
The fundraiser was created to support Olek and his family during this most difficult time. The funds raised will be used to cover the cost of non-refundable medications, dietary supplements, rehabilitation, and psychological care, which is essential given the demanding nature of the treatment, especially for a child on the autism spectrum (Asperger's syndrome).
